Nonkululeko Mngadi

IMG 8606 LargeMy name is Nonkululeko Mngadi. I began swimming at a very tender age of five and competed in numerous Level 1 galas.

My passion for teaching started when I joined the Learn to Swim (LTS) outreach programme coordinated by Central Gauteng Aquatics (CGA) in partnership with Swimming South Africa (SSA). Within the programme I dealt with physically challenged learners from different schools which made a huge impact in my life and how I view certain things. Working with kids brought me so much joy and passion for the sport simply because they are always eager to learn and their enthusiasm is very contagious.

About Sarah's Swim Academy

About Sarah's Swim Academy

Safety, fun and fitness - these are the key values we at Sarah’s Swim Academy advocate.

In the South African context, water is everywhere. For a child who cannot swim, this can lead to disaster. It becomes particularly dangerous if the adults around a child cannot swim either. An instance where a child who innocently stumbles into a bucket of water, falls from a boat, leans over too far while looking at fish in a fish pond, falls or is pushed by another child into a pool could turn deadly if that child can't swim.

From our watertoddlers to our adults, the safety of all our swimmers is our first priority. Swimming is an extremely important life saving skill that you should not neglect.

Our philosophy is simple

To passionately deliver the highest quality swimming experience to toddlers, children and adults
while staying safe, having fun and keeping fit.

Our classes are built around safety in the water.
Our focus is to teach swimming from toddler to adulthood in a safe environment for all swimmers. We encourage parents to get involved in teaching their toddlers basic safety skills in the water and we assist parents to develop their toddlers’ natural swimming ability.

As with any activity, an element of fun must always be present. Fun motivates us to continue to learn and hang in there when things become a little more challenging. We achieve this through play, which creates a fun and exciting environment for all levels of swimmers.

Our pool is indoor and heated

With obesity levels in adults and children on the rise, regular exercise is an integral part of every person’s life. Swimming offers a solution to regular exercise and helps maintain a sound fitness base whether it is for swimmers, who are looking for 'competition' or simply wanting some exercise, we have ensured that our program caters for everyone.

Our goal is to teach young children and adults to swim in a positive, safe, fun and loving environment.
We recognise that each person is an individual with different emotional and developmental needs and we tailor each lesson to those needs.

In addition to teaching the skill of swimming, we also strive to develop each child's self esteem, confidence and love for the water. Creating a happy swimmer is a gift that lasts a lifetime.

Our instructors and coaches have a genuine love of teaching as well as people.
These are the key criteria we look at when selecting instructors and coaches to join Sarah's Swim Academy.

Sarah Groenewald

Sarah GrownewaldMy name is Sarah Groenewald (nee Jonsson) and I have always had a love for the water. I started my swimming career at the age of 2 and have enjoyed many achievements since then, from breaking my first school backstroke record to swimming my first Midmar mile at the age of 10 in 30 minutes. I swam competitively for Parktown High School for Girls where I obtained my half colours in swimming.

After school, I qualified in sports massage and aromatherapy. By chance one of my massage clients asked me if I was able to correct her daughter's stroke so she could take part in her school galas and her husband wanted to learn to swim. This is where my swimming teaching and coaching career began.

Candice Williamson

Team med res 2544My name is Candice Williamson (nee Jonsson) and I am a person who is passionate about learning and development.

I started swimming at the age of 2 and swam competitively throughout primary school where I swam my first Midmar mile at the age of 12 in 28 minutes and participated in the Lower South Coast Swim Trials for breaststroke. I continued to swim competitively for Parktown High School for Girls. I went on to study accounting at RAU and I qualified as a CA(SA) in 2007 after completing my articles and board exams through Deloitte.

Testimonials

Just wanted to say that Thembeka is absolutely amazing – my son is trying new things and floating on his back (which he refused to do before) - she just connected with him in a different way and he adores her and cannot wait for his lessons with “teacher Thembeka”. - mom

Just to let you know that Thembeka has been excellent and my daughter is loving her swimming. – dad

Issy has truly found her swimming home at Sarah's Swim Academy. She's very happy. Thanks for everything. – mom

Thank you Sarah for not giving in to the big NO's from my son. I am seeing great progress, thank you - mom

For the first time, my son is able to cross our pool with the noodle with confidence. He actually wants to get into the water now every day to show us his progress. Thank you for your patience Sarah. – mom

Thanks, it was amazing. Slowly am getting used to being in water. The more I am doing this the more I keep on learning. Sooner or later I will be enjoying being in water (even alone). And Sarah is amazing. – adult learning to swim

Sarah taught my daughter how to swim 8 years ago. Now she is in level 5 with Craig! My son has also done an incredible progress. It's an amazing team with Candice in the background making sure the admin is done. I cannot recommend it enough! – mom

Sarah is Awesome. My son loves his swimming lessons and is doing really well!!
I highly recommend to all parents in Joburg – dad

Sarah has got my 2.5 year old daughter swimming in a matter of months. Loves her class each week. And my 5 yr old is doing great swimming strokes. Perfect balance of fun and structure. And such a great online booking system. Never have to cancel a class due to illness (you just don’t book one on those days). And good flexibility in times/days. A big thumbs up from us xx – mom

Both boys started with the swim school last term to supplement their school swimming...and I cannot even begin to tell you how they have excelled! Our youngest, after only 2 lessons gained so much confidence in the water that he is nearly swimming all by himself! Our oldest is now so excited to get to term 4 at his school just to show off what he has learnt!
This is the BEST swim school by far! – mom

Great swimming school. Both coaches are great with all the age groups under their wings. They work with your child's strengths and weaknesses but don't push. Sarah had my daughter swimming 25meter lengths at the age of 4. Another great offering for parents who want to get fit, you can swim lengths on their swim for life packages, while your little ones are having a lesson – mom

Wonderful and amazing school. Sarah has taught both my children to swim. – mom

Fantastic swimming school. My daughter’s swimming abilities progressed in leaps and bounds in a short period of time swimming with Sarah - mom

Sarah has been teaching our son how to swim since he was 6 months old. He is now nearly 3 and very confident in the water due to the great teaching that he received from Sarah. Sarah is very patient with the kids in the class and has the ability to communicate at their level thus making them feel safe and confident. She is also very consistent in her lessons which makes it easy for the kids to catch on through constant repetitiveness and they then have a great sense of achievement once they can master one of the skills she has taught them.

She is overall an excellent swim coach and we have seen great results in our son as a consequence. Sarah is also very communicative with us as parents, always directing us in the right way when it comes to achieving swimming results at home. She is very friendly and very knowledgeable on swimming techniques and she is able to communicate this well to us. Sarah has been the best coach to our son and we thank her for the effort and enthusiasm in which she has taught him for the last 2.5 years.– Happy Mom

I am writing to endorse the teaching skills of Sarah Jonsson, who has been the swimming coach of our daughter, Zoe for four years. She has been a remarkable teacher who has taught Zoe all the strokes and given her the skill and confidence to be a competitive swimmer at her school, where she is in the swimming team. More than that, Sarah has a wonderful connection with the kids that she coaches, which encourages them to always put their best foot forward.

I can say without hesitation that she has made a big difference to our daughter’s enthusiasm for the sport by encouraging her to take her swimming seriously, without turning it into a repetitive chore. Sarah has been professional, reliable and friendly in all our dealings with her and I have no hesitation in recommending her.– Happy Dad

Chloe still speaks very fondly of Teacher Sarah and we wish we could have continued with you. Good luck with your business!- Sad To Leave Mom
